Parlor Games List?
I'm not sure what to call what I'm trying to do right now (hence the '?' in the subject), but I want to make a list of all pervasive-esque games that are played in what I'm calling "parlor-style." Games that have already made my list are:
 +
 +
*Mafia/Werewolf/Red Scare (All the same game with different themes)
 +
*Capetown
 +
*The Resistance
 +
*The Things
 +
*Grand Emperor
 +
*Standoff
 +
*Hermit's House
 +
*The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen
 +
 +
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated!

NOTE: I'm currently reading through the games listed on Ludocity, and I'll post games that fit the list as I find them. In the meantime, feel free to tell me games (even if they're on here) to look at. Thanks! --BigBur (talk) 2009-07-13 22:08:48

Maybe Hermit's House fits into my list? I haven't read the rules yet...

What is the game "Ghost" about? I read about it on the fire hazard site... --BigBur (talk) 2009-07-14 21:53:38

We're having an evening for games roughly in this mould at the Hide&Seek Weekender at the end of the month, and I think the inclusions that are a bit parlour-game-y are:
 +
*Hermit's House
 +
*Standoff
 +
*Capetown
 +
*Grand Emperor
 +
*Ponzi!
 +
*Privacy is Dead
 +
*The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen (which is not a Ludocity game - it's a published game by James Wallis) --Holly (talk) 2009-07-15 16:07:04

Thanks for the suggestions, Holly. I've always wanted to play The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen (minus all the stupid alcoholic, sexual, or racist fluff)... So basically, the game can be played without all that anyway - it's just a storytelling game.

So I guess the only games I need to "relook into" are:

Ponzi!

I think Kevan has a game on his website (www.kevan.org) that would fit in this category. --Peads (talk) 2009-07-31 11:51:30

What are the games that we're interested in called? Big games, pervasive games, street games? It's been suggested that we include sports in the title (something like "new games and sports"), which is I think a good idea.

What sort of games should Ludocity include? "Anything that might run at H&S/COaP"? Should it include pick-up-and-play games like we have at the Sandpit? What about board games? Should we draw a line, and if so where?

Social Games and Urban Adventures New Games and Sports Aargh, you know how hung up I get on this question

I say, yes to sports, yes to social games, yes to creative games, no to board games. I think that "Anything that might run at Hide and Seek / COAP is a sensible marker to start with - it gives lots of guidance and context to the sort of things we want to do

Apart from games, what other content do we need? I like the idea of having some how-tos, and of a bit of encyclopedic content in the relevant area (a page for each recurring event, a page for each designer, etc).

AlexFleetwood said:

we need a record of who has run what game where - what their suggested mods / rulechanges were - their feedback for the designer. We need a method of hosting video and photos tagged to specific games. We need a records / scores facility - If the lost sport were on here it would be great to see a records table.

Translating the rulesets into other languages is something we'd like to encourage here - Thoughtcrime (Français) might be a good format for that, and if there's enough of a translation community emerging, we'll look into organising some actual subdomains.

Parlor Games List?

Old forum comments

(The Ludocity website previously had integrated forums, but they fell into spam-covered decline and were shut down in 2015. The comments in this section have been automatically converted from that forum.)
