The Potato Game (Not tested, still being written, ideas for rules/names of items gratefully received)

You will need

- at the very least 4 people, but more is probably better - some pototes - from 2 per person up to a maximum of about 50 should be right - an interesting area larger than about 30m by 30m.

Before the game someone will need to identify a Potato Base somewhere in the designated area for each team.

Then:

Divide yourselves up into teams of at least 2.

Show each team where all the Potato Bases are are and put some potatoes there. (I don't want to be prescriptive at the stage so I'd suggest a few more than the number of people in the team, but in some ways it could be more fun to have fewer...)

Send the teams on their way.

Play lasts as long as you want it to.

The rules:

Teams may travel together or as individuals and may go anywhere.

The aim of the game is to collect as many of your opponents potatoes as possible, and keep as many of yours as possible.

You can move your stash of tubers at any time and hide them elsewhere (ie chose a new Potato Base), but you can have no more than two/three (?) Potato Bases at any one time.

Potatoes may only be transported by groups of two or more - and a group may only carry one less potato than the number of people involved. ie, 3 people can carry 2, 2 people can carry 1, but 1 person can't carry any - they can scout around for other Potato Bases, however.

This could be a contact sport but that's up to you... I think maybe best not, but we shall see.
