I ran this game four times on 31/08/09 at the Hide & Seek Weekender. In all cases the players had not played before. Approximately half an hour was available for setup and play in each case.

The game played smoothly all four times, with about the right balance of success between the loyal and revolutionary factions. What I was not able to determine was whether the game would still play well with experienced players or whether some dominant strategy exists. (Feedback on this would be welcome.)

A few players were surprised by some aspects of play. Whether this is because instructions were confusing or because the environment in which the game was being played was extremely noisy was unclear. Careful explanation of the game's less intuitive rules seems important, particularly the election mechanism.

Prior to play I had printed out preformatted sheets for recording each player's card and vote. These proved quite useful, but probably not essential - they mostly served to speed things up.

Players overall seemed to enjoy themselves and several took the opportunity to provide positive feedback, so I consider the game playable in its current form. --bateleur (talk) 2009-08-01 22:01:36
